CAROLYN BLAKE

This body of work marks the culmination of three years sustained painting since my last show at The Table with Val in 2022.
It’s been a time of working without pressure.
A steady revisiting of materials, memories, ideas, some with a new understanding and clarity. Each carrying traces of what came before.
Maybe if there is a theme running through this exhibition, then it is one of time. This is more obvious in the paintings that reveal workings of an archeological nature.
I can see in my paintings marks, colours, shapes that I’ve used over forty years ago still being repeated albeit unconsciously…and though I’m now in my 80th year, the joy of charging the brush with paint, facing the bare canvas, still holds sheer delight.
I’m hoping that the quiet magnitude of those feelings shines through and now hangs here on these walls.
