Following a decades-long London based career in photography - creating award winning advertising work for the likes of Nike, BMW and British Airways - Tif now lives and works from a set of agricultural barns close to the Black Mountains in Herefordshire.
Always a lover of the analogue, Tif’s art practice has been particularly drawn to the creation of tintypes - a 19th-century process that records a unique monochrome image on a sheet of metal.
The “embrace of the unknown and the accidental” sits at the heart of Tif’s work - each tintype carrying its own glitches and marks, just like the subjects it captures. In a world of digital retouched repetition, his tintype photographs celebrate the beauty found in the natural blemishes of life lived.
With his sumptuous handling of light - in both portraiture and still life - Tif creates rich textural images of honesty and timeless beauty.
His work has been exhibited at The Royal Academy and The National Portrait Gallery as well as commercial galleries including Michael Hoppen Gallery, Purdy Hicks and Messums.
Tif is really looking forward to exhibiting his work at The Table as well as offering portrait sessions in the gallery throughout the week.
