I use mixed media to explore internal responses to external places and figures. Walking through the local hills of Abergavenny, and life drawing session, I sketch and gather images. My body responds to the energy and feel of each place and figure, sometimes evoking memories. Together these processes become pieces of work back in the studio at the bottom of my garden.
There is a connection to feminine energy throughout my work which I believe is often hidden and secret within today’s world. As if we are all vessels carrying unseen memories.
My work is inspired by a Chloe Charrington ceramic vessel, which seemed to have a magical, internal energy. I drew and painted it, and believed it held hidden secrets and stories. One day it was broken by accident. It now reveals its internal world to me. I have a week in Maz Hawes’s studio this summer and will paint and create responses to the vessel’s new state. I will bring this work together at The Table ‘Walls for a Week” later this year.
